Sofia Berinstein

I am a postdoctoral fellow and visiting assistant professor at Swarthmore College. I have research interests in philosophy of mind (especially perception), epistemology, value theory, emotion, aesthetics, and metaethics. Roughly, I specialize in ‘vibes’. Vibes are world-directed experiences that have a certain affective character or emotional tone and that thereby feel good or bad to undergo. I work on the epistemic and practical significance of these kinds of states. I am interested in how they guide intentional action, whether they constitute a distinct type of knowledge that may differ in kind from paradigmatically cognitive beliefs, and how they shape aesthetic tastes.
